What could rival the warmth of a treasured memory? A t-shirt quilt comes the closest by far!
We take a “green” approach to helping customers reinvigorate those old t-shirts that may be tucked in drawers or forgotten on closet shelves. Our process involves using the majority of each t-shirt to create a full-, queen-, or king-sized quilt. For a smaller number of shirts, we can create a throw-sized quilt. We can make beautiful quilts from baby clothes, bibs, and other special items.
We can also make quilted t-shirt pillow shams and throw pillows.
The finished product is impressive and is guaranteed to warm hearts for years to come.
T-shirt Quilt Guidelines
A traditional t-shirt quilt is made up of shirts that are all cut the same size, set in a grid pattern with sashing fabric between the blocks. The t-shirt size of each block will range between 14-16 inches depending on the design.
Preparing your t-shirts:
- Your t-shirts should be laundered and in good condition – stains or discolorations will show up on your quilt.
- Please do not use fabric softener or dryer sheets. A $5.00 wash charge will be applied if you are not sure if softener was used.
- Do not cut your t-shirts. I will return any whole t-shirts that cannot be used. Remnants will not be returned.
- To indicate which side of a shirt to use, you can either pin a note to the shirt, or an easier way is to bundle the shirts together by which side you would like used and put them in separate bags, one for “front side only”, “back only” or “both sides.”
The sashing is a cotton fabric, which will compliment your shirts. Navy blue, burgundy, dark gold, light blue, purple or forest green set off the shirts nicely. If you would like a particular color sashing, please specify when you place your order. There may be an additional charge depending on the fabric. A neutral tone fabric is used for the quilt back. If you would like another color for the backing there may be an additional charge depending on the size of your quilt.
